Advergame Case Studies

Client: Nokia
Project: Sketchy

Here's the Rub
In 2001, Nokia approached Blockdot about generating a buzz for a new cell phone feature: Text messaging.

Knowing that text messaging users were likely to be a hip, game-savvy bunch, Blockdot designed an awesomely fun (and addictive) Advergame that delivered a blizzard of publicity.

The Fun Stuff
In the snow-sledding game Sketchy, players pick a character, then use their keyboard to swish him down a mountain and slide him across the finish line before time runs out. But this isn't just a relaxing day on the slopes; players must avoid obstacles (like snowmen, trees, and other sled riders) while trying to pick up extra points by steering over colored dots on the sledding trail.

The Results
Sketchy enticed Nokia owners to try out text messaging on their own phones; game players could choose to receive a "secret code" via a text message that would unlock additional Sketchy racing characters.
